VENTURING OUT May 28, 2023May 28, 2023 This morning, we ventured out to go to the bank, and taxi to the nearest shopping mall, primarily for groceries. I am at a bit of a loss in finding words to describe our grocery purchasing experience. I have never ever brought home such an interesting array of rather expensive food items. There were many aisles loaded with every chip, snack, and puffed something-or-other in a vast display of various colors, flavors, and sizes. There were shelves lined with a variety of canned fish options, primarily sardines, floating in an assortment of sauces, and a reach-and-grab fish counter with species of fish that I have never in my life heard of. Not a dried bean or canned bean to be found. Hit and a miss.We meandered up and down shelves while maintaining hope that we would find SOMETHING that would be remotely related to what we normally eat. We did find oatmeal (yahoo), raisins, popcorn, and brown rice but my eyes were fixed on the last aisle—THE PRODUCE!Despite the size, mold-factor and and aged-past-their-prime veggies, we were grateful to have found something that nearly resembled plants, i.e. items which grow in soil. We arrive home. Phew!! I must digress for a moment to discuss the traffic state of affairs. There are almost without exception “discomforts” which are associated with being COMPLETELY out of our normal elements and we have experienced much of this. Might it be the lack of traffic lights, stop signs, or having to dodge cars when attempting to cross the streets? Or is it the multitude of motorcyclists dodging in and out of cars, never having learned the concept of right-of-way? I am unknowingly holding my breath while waiting for a collision to occur until we arrive at our destination. Another wonderful day in the neighborhood. . . Author: Sherry Gregory Uncategorized
